Welcome To Palma By Holiday Island Majorca

Palma is the capital of the holiday island of Mallorca and on a bigger scale the capital of the Balearic islands. The city nestles on the south of the island and is home to a population of roughly half a million inhabitants, it is also the location of the islands airport which welcomes about 22 million passengers a year.

The city of Palma is the location of choice for millions of holiday goers and also plays host to  the Spanish royal family who often choose to spend their vacation in the Marivent palace.

The city is a great place to visit whilst on holiday to Mallorca mainly because of its varied passed, from Roman influences, to Byzantine and Muslim features the city is scattered with interesting sights to see. Highlights include Palma cathedral, the old streets that show signs of the arab influences the city used to have and the old arab baths.

Exploring the city is fairly easy, there is a tourist information office providing guidance, information, maps and leaflets. The city has brilliant public transport options including bus, rail and metro, but a novel way to explore the city is the Palma open top bus, which will give you a great view.

Towards the cost there is the pretty harbour and Palma port to explore with its plethora of small yachts and large cruise vessels in the summer season. The surrounding areas of the city also have some beautiful sandy beaches to relax on, including the popular El Arenal beach.
