Puerto Andratx Majorca (Mallorca)
The economy of the area much like the rest of the island is heavily concentrated on tourism however, it still yet to be discovered by the major tour operators. This means that most people that visit the area book the accommodation themselves and are more the independent style of traveller. The best options to get to the resort are either to get a taxi or hire a car. The resort lies about 34km from Palma airport. The taxi can be booked via our taxi link at the bottom of the page.
The town of Andratx is centuries old and lies slightly inland from the port, this was to defend it from the attacks of pirates many years ago. The town creates a picturesque impression with its cobbled street and the impressive Santa Maria church as well as its plethora of old building for admiring and photographing.
Today, the town is home to many luxurious holiday homes and villas the majority of which are set in lush grounds and most have private pools. Many of these are German or Spanish owned; sometimes they can be home to holidaying celebrities with the likes of Claudia Schiffer, Guy Hamilton and Tom Cruise having vacation in the resort.
The port or Puerto Andratx used to be a just a quaint Mallorcan fishing village, however in more recent years the tourist industry has reached the harbour. There is still a fishing industry on a small scale. The main use of the port today is the marina function, with it offering berths for around 300 vessels. However the port still has its Mallorcan vibe and feel.
The only other industry in the Andratx region is agriculture, and even this is on a very minimal scale, with produce being wine, and citrus fruits.
The region of Andratx and Puerto Andratx is a great place for a Mallorca holiday, especially for those who want a style of holiday that is more relaxed, and rural. It’s the ideal for the traveller who wants to explore more rural areas of the holiday island and enjoy a holiday at their own pace.
